We will have Honeycrisp, Cortland, Macoun, Macintosh, Gala & Ginger Gold this weekend Sept 15 & 16.
Also cider and donuts – come early when it is cooler and before the donuts run out!!
Apples are ripening sooner than we expected – so we now have Honeycrisp, Cortland and Macoun ready to pick as well as Macintosh, Gala and some remaining Ginger Gold.
The newly ripe varieties are down the hill – look at the orchard map – follow the blue tape. Lots of good fruit – pick the red ones – leave the others to ripen next week.
Cider is available now – donuts will be here Saturday and Sunday.
Look forward to seeing you!!
We start our regular season tomorrow Friday September 7. Open days will be Tuesday thru Sunday 9:00 to 5:30 – closed Mondays.
Ginger Gold, Gala and Macintosh will be available for picking. Ginger Golds are the ripest apples, followed by the Galas (pick the reddest ones). There are plenty of Macintosh – they will be on the tart side – our northern apples don’t ripen well in the hot weather. Fruit will be riper next weekend.
Early apple weekend customers picked almost all of the Zestars and Sansas. Honeycrisp are ripening slowly – they will likely start after Sept 16 – I will keep you posted.
If the weather forecast is correct, it will be cooler this weekend. There will be cider AND donuts on Saturday and Sunday. New scales are working well for folks bringing their own bags.
Come see us !!
Galas
Macintosh
We have purchased two good platform scales (see picture) to make it easier for customers who want to reduce the use of plastic bags by bringing their own reusable bags. There will be a $.25 discount for each customer supplied bag – way better than $.05 at the grocery store!
We will weigh fruit in customer supplied bags (and our bags when part full) – $1.10 per pound 1 to 20 pounds, $.90 per pound over 20 pounds – equivalent to our by the bag prices.
We will continue to sell fruit in our bags at the per bag prices to minimize check out time – especially for customers with lots of bags.
If you have lots of reusable grocery bags, please feel free to bring them.
Most grocery bags are larger than our 1/2 bushel bags – this one weighs 27 pounds when full.
Looks like the heat wave is breaking – forecast Saturday Sept 1 is sunny with high of 73 – Sunday will be warmer with possible showers.
So come this weekend to get some Zestars and Ginger Golds at their prime. You can see in the pictures that they are ripening well and the rain has helped them grow.
We will have cider and Mrs. Murphy’s donuts on both Saturday and Sunday – sometimes they run out, sometime not.
Help us start another harvest!!
