We open tomorrow for our regular season ( a week earlier than last year).  We will have excellent picking for Ginger Gold, Sansa, Gala and McIntosh.  Hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM daily except closed Mondays as usual (including Labor day Sept. 7).

Many of the Zestars were picked during our early apple weekend, but we picked those that remained Sunday evening and put them in our cold storage so they would not get too ripe with the hot weather.  For those of you who missed out on early apple weekend (or need some more Zestars), we will be offering picked pecks  this weekend for a “75’th Anniversary Special” at $10.00.

We plan additional “75’th anniversary specials” on future weekends.  In addition we are cooperating with RK Miles who are also celebrating 75 years in the Northshire – stay tuned for details.

Weather (especially Friday and Saturday) is going to be cooler than this week – we will have cider all week and donuts  Sat & Sun only – come early to be sure that the donuts have not run out.

We saw lots of familiar faces today – plenty of good fruit was picked.  There is not as much fruit as this morning,  but picking is still excellent.

Zestar, Ginger Gold, Sansa and tart Macs in the old orchard are easy to pick.

Come see us tomorrow or wait until Friday Sept 4 when we open for a regular season.

This years crop is really bountiful  –  all three early apple varieties ( Zestar, Ginger Gold and Sansa) are very good.  MacIntosh in the old orchard are ripening as well – if you like them tart, they will be available also.

We will be open 9:00 to 5:30 both Saturday and Sunday and then closed until Friday Sept 4 when we open for the regular season (remember closed on Mondays).

Weather looks good for the weekend (maybe a little warm) – barn is cleaned up, most of the signs are out – we have some fruit picked and in the cool room.

Some fine looking Zestars

We have a very good crop this year and the apple season is early  – we will open Saturday Aug 29 and Sunday Aug 30 for an early apple weekend.  We will then be closed as usual on Monday and also Tuesday, Wed, Thursday – then open for our regular season on Friday Sept 4 for more early apples and McIntosh – not sure about Galas – Honeycrisp will be a week or two later.

Zestars, Ginger Golds and Sansas will all be available .   Zestars have been picked out the first day or two in prior years, so come early.   They are a great eating apple and excellent for pies – we make our main batch of pies to freeze for the winter using Zestars. Ginger Golds are excellent for eating and baking.  Sansas are a firm sweet eating apple.

Gingers Golds

Many happy pickers came for the raspberries and cherries since we opened on July 10 – we appreciate the flexibility people have shown in adapting to the on again/off again schedule to let more berries ripen after a heavy picking day.

The raspberries did not have the late season push of more ripe berries that we used to get – some of this is due to the recent very hot weather and some to the fact that the Nova’s in the lower field were planted 13 years ago.

We expect the new planting of Boyne raspberries in the upper field will give us a good crop next year and we will replant 500 more Nova’s next spring in the three lower field fallow rows.

The apple crop this year looks very good – adequate moisture is giving us good size – if we avoid hail storms, it will be a bumper crop.  We will have an “EARLY APPLE SATURDAY” ( or possibly an early apple weekend ) in September for Zestars, Sansas and Ginger Golds – I will post late August as we determine when fruit will be ripe.  Zestars often get picked out on the first day.

Thanks for making the raspberry and cherry harvest a good one – cherry crop this year was exceptionally good.  Things are currently quiet up on our hill as we prepare for 17 family visitors.
